Hirotaka Omotesando Hills & Kobe

Here are two stores of Hirotaka, Japanese jewelry brand
established in 2010. One is a flagship shop in Omotesando Hills,
which is a renovation project with floor area expanded twice. The
interior environment uses installations made of various materials,
inspired by a studio of sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi. A lot of
round tables are placed at angles, which gives an organic and
dynamic impression to the stark room. The other one, located in
the former Kobe Foreign Settlement, is the first directmanagement
store that uses rocky tables have a strong presence.
Basic interior colors are white and grey. The atmosphere of
interior reminds us of an art gallery representing a feeling of the
time flow, with the use of piled stone, rusted Corten steel, and
boards with annual rings.

STAR JEWELRY Omotesando Hills

This jewelry brand celebrated the 75th anniversary in 2021 and
the store in Omotesando was currently remodeled to proclaim
craftmanship and business ethics. Plain space, omitting trifling
decorative elements, uses planters and natural materials to
balance the whole.
The establishment can be suitable for Omotesando, a trendy
shopping neighborhood in Tokyo, presenting a new store style.

SHIRO NEWoMan SHINJUKU & LUMINE KITASENJU

Two establishments for the cosmetic brand SHIRO, which takes
pride in natural products.
NEWoMan SHINJUKU uses bronze-colored stainless steel and
plaster as the main materials to differentiate the interior from the
common area with wood and white materials. A large white display
counter with semi-circular ends floats at the center of the store
and a big square pillar appears to penetrate a table.
SHIRO LUMINE KITASENJU has a J-shaped counter introducing
a shoppers inside the shop. The counter and walls are mode of
plaster and gravels and the texture and reminiscent of grains of
rice, which helps appealing brand products like lotion made from
sake lees.

longleage Ginza

Advocating “beautiful and healthy nail as a selling point”,
longleage is a nail salon specializing nail polishing. Locating on
the fifth floor of a building near a park, the salon opened in June in
Ginza, Tokyo. Going through the entrance, you will see fine views
of green of the park through glazed opening. The interior was
designed upon concept of Japanese style and tea ceremony
house. Nine treatment rooms are comfortable and partitioned by
lattices to keep privacy in each room. Treatment furniture is
movable, and the layout is changeable according to the situation
and requirements.

This flagrance shop offers at home atmosphere in which
customers can relax and browse merchandises. No register
counter nor backyard as a home. Even no ceiling lamps for
shoppers to focus on their osphresis. Spotlights show up
numerous small clear bottles of flagrance.
Mud walls remind us of traditional house of Argentine (the
birthplace of the brand) and Japan and the walls inhale and exhale
the flagrance so that people in there always feel the scent.
Signage and wood cover of lamps are all hand crafted as
instructed by director.

MOONSTAR Jiyugaoka

Kurume city-based shoemaker MOONSTAR, celebrating the
150th anniversary in 2023, opened directly managed shop in
Jiyugaoka, Tokyo. This company has system in Kurume city to
promote manufacturing on their own, including mold making and
material processing of rubber, canvas, and leather. Tables and
lighting fixtures were manufactured by collaboration of the project
designer, the engineering department of the company, and a
construction company in Tokyo, using the properties of rubber.
This shop designed under a theme of “community brand
networking people, locality, and culture”, makes presentation of
shop building, combining the wisdom of people around this shoe
shop.

Voice operation public toilets, toilets representing hotel’s concept,
luxurious toilets suitable for gorgeous environment, and more.
Those intriguing toilets, wherever they are, share high amenity,
usability, and agreeableness. Some of those smart toilets are
conveniently maintained and have natural ventilation that circulates
air and arouse user’s awareness to keep toilet nice condition.
Here are excellent samples of smart and comfortable toilets.

Obituary: Shigemasa Noi

Shigemasa Noi, based in Osaka, is one of the most famous and
excellent interior designers of this age in Japan. He designed a lot
of bars, taverns, restaurants, etc. His style shows uniqueness and
warmness and he was admired by many people, regardless of
generation. Shotenkenchiku interviewed some people who were
close to him, including designers, photographers, and others in
creative line of business to fathom origin of his ideas. Also, we
publish his chronicle with masterpieces. What should we, his
successors, learn from his work?
