What's Next for Your Design Studio? 〔Part 1〕

(Page  42)

Labor shortages, soaring construction costs, and work-style
reforms. Amidst these changing times, architectural firms
specializing in commercial building design and interior design face
numerous challenges. How are these firms tackling such
difficulties? In the first part of this series, we focus on three
themes: “Recruitment & Training,” “Digital Transformation,” and
“Client Relationship.” Through surveys, interviews, and roundtable
discussions, we delve into the real-world realities of the interior
design industry.

TOKYO BIRTH CLINIC

(Page  102)

TOKYO BIRTH CLINIC is an obstetrics and gynecology clinic
specializing in planned childbirth through painless delivery. This
newly constructed facility, with ten above-ground floors and one
basement levels, marks the owner’s first venture into Tokyo after
operating a clinic in Fukuoka and Nagasaki. To ensure patients
can relax, the interior design features wood materials and a graytone
palette throughout. Patient rooms are arranged as highquality,
tranquil spaces reminiscent of a hotel. Additionally,
furnishings used at the Nagasaki clinic are incorporated into
common areas and the entrance, creating a classic impression.
The exterior design, inspired by a double helix motif, produces a
distinctive, three-dimensional volume.

LeMon Pediatric Clinic / LeMon Everyone's Clinic Ichikawa

(Page  114、118)

A community-rooted clinic project commissioned by the operator
of a general hospital. Designed as part of a broader vision to
establish multiple clinics around the existing hospital, aiming to
provide more comprehensive and accessible healthcare services
to the entire region. At “LeMon Pediatric Clinic,” a pediatric
practice opened on the first floor of a building, the integrated
volume containing examination rooms, reception, and waiting area
is erected indoors as “another building.” By positioning its outer
perimeter as an extension of the street, it adjusts the sense of
distance from the neighborhood. Similarly, “LeMon Everyone's
Clinic Ichikawa,” by the same client and designer, is also a clinic
open to the street. This project involves renovating an existing
medical facility into a new clinic. Recognizing that the front road
served as a beloved walking path for local residents, the exterior
features a garden and benches. This outdoor space seamlessly
transitions into an indoor waiting area that doubles as a community
space. The curved wall of the waiting area gently connects
medical staff and patients without creating a strict division.

HIMEDIC OSAKA NAKANOSHIMA Course

(Page  141)

The design concept centers on hospitality as a high-precision
medical screening facility, expressing the gentle undulation and
tranquility of water—inspired by its location in Nakanoshima,
Osaka, the city of water—along with a quiet yet powerful vitality.
Specifically, it creates an immersive spatial experience reminiscent
of entering water through a streamlined spatial composition and
the layered use of light evoking water. The design concept aimed
to realize a space embodying both regional characteristics and the
advanced nature of a high-precision screening facility. It sought to
transcend the conventional framework of screening facilities,
creating a place where executives could relax with peace of mind,
where tranquil moments become lasting memories.

La villa Hiro-o

(Page  145)

Under Union Tech’s production, Old Kan designed and planned
the beauty salon “La villa Hiro-o.” The concept is “Comfortable
soft resort.” Aiming for a soft resort space with an airy, breezy
lightness, the design combines a sense of the extraordinary with a
gentle atmosphere that conveys the client’s warm personality.
From the entrance, a space reminiscent of a resort hotel unfolds,
guiding guests into a relaxing retreat. Using natural materials like
limestone, earthen walls, natural wood, and rattan, it creates a
spatial experience that gently envelops visitors while forming a
unique identity.

Yokohama Yumirai Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics

(Page  162)

This specialized clinic provides advanced medical care that
extends beyond conventional dental treatment, encompassing
children's respiratory health and skeletal development. Utilizing a
ceiling height of 5.7 meters, a massive “green hill” was
constructed within the interior. The waiting area is situated outside
the hill, connecting seamlessly with the external greenery, while
the treatment functions are placed inside the ‘hill’—within a
“cave”—ensuring tranquility and privacy. Children approach the
inner treatment rooms from an entrance on the hillside, exploring
the cave-like space. Above some treatment booths, voids open to
the hilltop, creating a skylight effect where light and greenery
cascade down.

Ohisama Neurosurgery/Dentistry

(Page  173)

The Ohisama Neurosurgery/Dentistry clinic was planned as a
branch of the main hospital, renovated from a former drugstore.
To create a comfortable environment for staff and an attractive
space for recruiters, a staff lounge area called “moon light coffee”
was incorporated, featuring a large counter where meals and
conversations can be enjoyed freely. A subdued color palette
creates a distinct atmosphere from the examination spaces. The
facility also serves as a gathering place for those involved in
community healthcare. The floor plan centers around a “medical
core” housing treatment rooms, allowing circulation around it.
