Et -THE CULTURAL COFFEEHOUSE-

(Page  72)

This is a café that opened on the first and second floors of a
building standing along the Shimokita rail line in Shimokitazawa,
Tokyo. Here, the specialty “Bloom” menu, which incorporates
unique distillation techniques, is served with coffee, tea, and food
made with distilled water made from completely pesticide-free
herbs delivered from the herb garden “HERBSTAND” in
Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The main materials used
for the interior were plaster with a rough, sandy feel that evokes
the nature of the Seto Inland Sea, where the client is based, and
plaster with a smooth, sandy feel that is pleasant to the touch. The
plastered bench, with its wave-like curves, can be used freely by
any number of people, and is surrounded by movable furniture that
can be used as a table or stools.

Blue Bottle Coffee Toyosu Park Cafe

(Page  79)

This café is in Tokyo’s bay area, in Toyosu Park facing Tokyo Bay.
The new detached building has a large area of approximately 300 ㎡ ,
but the shape of the building was shaped like a cluster of friendly
hut-like scale objects so that the large building would not divide
the park. The interior of the building blends with the outdoors,
making the entire park feel as if it belongs to the café. Around the
building where the café counter, the centerpiece of the project, is
located, a variety of seating areas spread out under the large eaves
and on the semi-outdoor terrace space. The building space is
seamlessly connected inside and out, with bricks laid inside and out,
FRP panels covering the top, and many glass surfaces on the walls.

INODA COFFEE SANJO SHOP

(Page  100)

The reconstruction project of Inoda Coffee Sanjo, a longestablished
coffee shop facing Sanjo Street in Kyoto, has been
completed. On Kyoto’s main street, where much history has been
written, Inoda Coffee Sanjo has been a salon that has supported
culture for many people. The new store, which was rebuilt as the
building deteriorated, was planned as a space that would
accommodate a wider range of customers while inheriting the
characteristics of the old store. The oval-shaped counter, which
was inherited from the old store and enlarged, and the tiled
flooring that resembles the old exterior show an attempt to
connect the past with the future.

Naki vegan sweets

(Page  125)

The long and slender building stands out conspicuously in an
alleyway in Namba, Osaka, one of Japan’s most prestigious
shopping districts, and catches the eye of passersby. The building
takes advantage of its extremely slender nature to extend its walls
all the way to the rooftop, emphasizing its slenderness even more.
On the facade, the message and narrative of vegan sweets are
expressed through the “warmth of the earth,” which evokes the
texture and feel of soil. The designer designed all the corners of
the building with curves to give the brand a soft and gentle
impression and eliminated straight lines in the store as much as
possible, focusing on the warmth of the earth and curves.

SHINDO LAB STAND

(Page  160)

This is a concept store by Shinozaki, a sake brewer with a 230-
year history, planned to be attached to a whiskey distillery and a
wine brewery. By creating a space with softness and elegance
without relying on the rugged image associated with whiskey, a
space that will be familiar to a wide range of customers was
pursued. The store is lined with a variety of alcoholic beverages
as well as apparel items, making it possible for customers to visit
the store for a variety of purposes. A large window behind the
counter offers a view of barrels lined up waiting to be matured,
and one can feel the passion that people put into making whiskey.
