Counter

NOT A PIZZA

(Page  53)

Located in Yutenji, Tokyo, this pizzeria was designed upon the
owner’s requirement that he wanted a Brooklyn style environment
where they serve freestyle dishes on free menu. Architect created
here a wood-fired kiln near the entrance, which passers-by easily
recognize. A counter encircles the kiln and it represents activities
and warm atmosphere with fire. Interior materials are quite simple,
like white painted bricks, industrial steel pipes, iron work
elements, which remind us of a feeling of Brooklyn. In a back
room there are sofas, and a wall and the ceiling are undressed lit
up by indirect lighting which is made of existing lightweight steel
elements.

HAIR SALON

MA nature

(Page  132)

MA nature is a renovation project of an old apartment and it can
be used either as a gallery or studio. This hair salon is surrounded
by parking lots on two sides and the entrance is on the semioutdoor
walkway side.
A big circle mirror divides the space, reflecting both the inside and
outside of the salon. We even forget the mirror as it can be
sometimes unrecognizable by the visual illusion to confuse real
and virtual, and to change the way we see the world.
