Stone Processing Factory Report

(Page  52)

Matsushita Sangyo’s factory MONO FACTORY is located in
Inabe city, Mie prefecture. It is amazing to see a stock yard where
they put various rough rocks imported from all over the world. The
rocks are suspended by wires to be carried out and cut by 120
inch diameter circular saws, diamond gang saws, or multi-wire
saws. After such primary processing, the rocks are cut, drilled,
sharpened, and polished by skilled craftsmen, according to each
application for the interior, exterior, and furnishing. This report
tells you attractiveness of stone with the backdrop of dynamic
manufacturing in the factory.

This Onsen establishment is located in a calm residential area,
accessed by ten minutes by train from Shinjuku, giving a feeling of
mountain village with hot springs. This Onsen Ryokan includes a
partly outdoor big bathroom, spa, kappo restaurant and teaceremony
room. There are thirty five guest rooms; modern
Japanese style rooms and traditional Japanese-style rooms where
you must take off your shoes at earth floor. Interestingly, there are
twelve court yards in this establishment and their views of the
garden with trees and stones make you forget that you are in the
city. Hot spring water for open-air baths for both men and women
are regularly transported from Hakone Ashinoko Onsen in
Kanagawa prefecture. In the men’s bath you can use cold water

Located near a highway starting from Ikebukuro railroad station,
this renovation of a wooden one-story house and housing complex
makes an intriguing multi-purpose establishment including shop,
restaurant, co-working space, and shared kitchen, presenting
ideal lifestyle models.
Making the most of wood joinery and pergola to give a unified
impression to visitors, this building effectively uses common
architectural elements buffering the borders. The project
manipulates visitors’ visions naturally so that they appreciate the
landscape and they easily become members of the community.

HOGET

(Page  150)

This facility, located in Saikai city, Nagasaki prefecture, is a
renovation project of an old house to have event hall, cafe,
fabrication laboratory, office, and so-called “harappa” free scape.
As the project site has no chain restaurants nor mass retailers, the
building makes a multipurpose establishment to attract local
people and promote their interaction. Having demolished the
existing two meters high podium, they made a wide step in front of
the building. The front facade is open to neighborhood and
adjacent open space. The project architect held two workshops at
the construction stage to make this project community-based.
